Nastya Kamenskykh shared photos from Kyiv with her mother and Alla Kudlai. What is known about her visit, the language controversy, and the return of her duo with Potap.
Ukrainian singer Nastya Kamenskykh has shared new images from Kyiv after spending an extended period abroad. The artist met with her mother, Lidia Kamenskykh, and her godmother, People’s Artist of Ukraine Alla Kudlai. The visit attracted attention amid the language controversy, the termination of her partnership with a major brand and the recent reunion of the duo “Potap and Nastya”.
According to TSN, Kamenskykh and her mother walked through central Kyiv, while the meeting with Kudlai reportedly took place at one of the city’s venues. The singer did not disclose the purpose of the trip, the length of her stay in Ukraine or her future plans. She also made no announcements regarding concerts, filming or other public projects in Kyiv.
A family reunion with Lidia Kamenskykh and Alla Kudlai
Alla Kudlai described the meeting with her goddaughter and her mother as particularly emotional. Her post included the phrase: “A goddaughter is family by the bond of the soul.” She also noted that such meetings create a sense of home and bring back warm family emotions.
Lidia Kamenskykh and Alla Kudlai have known each other for many years. In their youth, they both worked with the Hryhorii Veryovka National Honoured Academic Folk Choir of Ukraine, became friends and later formed a family bond through godparenthood. Kudlai became Nastya Kamenskykh’s godmother.
Online reactions to the photographs were mixed. Some commenters welcomed the family reunion, while others once again referred to Kamenskykh’s performances of Russian-language material abroad.
What happened during the language controversy
In August 2025, Nastya Kamenskykh faced widespread public criticism following concerts in the United States. The singer performed Russian-language songs from her catalogue and addressed the audience in Russian during a show in Miami.
Kamenskykh stated that skin colour and the language people speak do not matter because there is a universal “language of love”. The remark prompted a negative response from part of the Ukrainian audience, particularly against the backdrop of Russia’s continuing full-scale war against Ukraine.
The discussion concerned not only the use of Russian in private life, but also the public performance of commercially successful Russian-language material by a Ukrainian artist during wartime. Critics also pointed out that Kamenskykh had previously translated some of her songs into Ukrainian and appeared to distance herself from the Russian cultural space.
Zolotyi Vik ended its partnership with the singer
Following the controversy, Ukrainian jewellery company Zolotyi Vik ended its advertising campaign with Kamenskykh ahead of schedule. She had served as a brand ambassador since 2021.
The company explained that the decision reflected its own principles and values, without disclosing the financial terms of the agreement or any possible compensation. It is therefore more accurate to describe the situation as an early termination of the advertising campaign rather than claim, without documentary evidence, that the singer was fined or required to return her fee.
Kamenskykh’s team stated that the singer accepted the brand’s decision, thanked the company for the collaboration and intended to move forward with new projects. The statement did not include a public apology for the performance or any revision of her position regarding language.
How Alla Kudlai responded to the controversy
In September 2025, Alla Kudlai publicly supported her goddaughter. She praised Kamenskykh’s vocal abilities and said that she considered the tone of a singer’s voice to be their most important quality.
When asked about the artist’s civic position, Kudlai declined to discuss the matter in detail, describing it as Kamenskykh’s personal affair and stressing that she continued to love her.
Their latest meeting in Kyiv was therefore not unexpected from the perspective of their personal relationship: even during the most intense stage of the controversy, Kudlai did not distance herself from her goddaughter.
The return of Potap and Nastya

The duo rose to prominence during the 2000s and 2010s with a catalogue dominated by Russian-language hits, including “Ne Para”, “V Nature”, “Vsyo Puchkom” and “Chumachechaya Vesna”. The artists have not yet presented a detailed concept for the reunion or said whether they plan to adapt their older catalogue into Ukrainian.
The use of Russian in the announcement and the choice of New York for the first concert suggest that the project is likely aimed primarily at Russian-speaking audiences abroad. This is an editorial assessment rather than an officially stated position from the musicians.
Does Nastya Kamenskykh live in Spain?
Some Ukrainian media outlets claim that Kamenskykh has spent most of her time abroad since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and frequently associate her with Spain. However, the available reports often present this information as a rumour.
The singer has not made an official statement confirming a permanent move to Spain, and there is no verified information regarding her current place of residence. It would therefore be inaccurate to state that Kamenskykh has permanently emigrated or resides in a particular country without additional confirmation.
Her latest trip should also not be described as her first return to Ukraine since February 2022. Kamenskykh had previously visited Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, appeared at public events and met with friends. It is more accurate to call it her first prominent appearance in the capital in some time.
Does the visit signal Kamenskykh’s return to Ukrainian show business?
There is currently no basis for such a conclusion.
The singer has not announced a concert in Ukraine, released a new Ukrainian-language song, confirmed a permanent return to Kyiv or issued a new statement regarding the language debate. The published photographs primarily document a private family visit.
At the same time, Kamenskykh’s appearance in the capital is inevitably viewed through the lens of her recent decisions. Following the controversy in the United States, the termination of her partnership with a Ukrainian brand and the revival of a Russian-language duo, any public activity by the singer in Ukraine attracts increased scrutiny.
From a reputational perspective, a single appearance in Kyiv is unlikely to change the views of a critical audience. That would require a consistent series of public actions: creative projects, clear communication, support for Ukraine or an explanation of her previous statements.
However, the family reunion should not be presented as a political or reputational statement by Kamenskykh either. The singer did not accompany the photographs with an apology, an address to Ukrainians or an announcement of a change in her creative direction.

Nastya Kamenskykh was indeed in Kyiv in July 2026. She spent time with her mother, Lidia Kamenskykh, and met with her godmother, Alla Kudlai.
However, the exact date of her arrival, the duration of her stay and the purpose of the visit were not disclosed publicly. At least one of the photographs was already circulating in the media on July 14, although a new wave of reports appeared only on July 23.
The main news, therefore, is not a confirmed “return” of the singer to Ukraine, but her first publicly documented visit to Kyiv in some time — against the backdrop of continuing debates over language, repertoire and the future direction of her career.
