Future’s album The Real Me topped the Billboard 200 and became the rapper’s twelfth chart-topper, allowing him to surpass Eminem in the number of No. 1 albums.
The tenth studio album by American rapper Future, titled The Real Me, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The release gave the artist his twelfth chart-topping album on the main US albums chart and allowed him to surpass Eminem, who remains on eleven No. 1 albums.
The record topped the Billboard 200 chart dated July 25, 2026. During the tracking week ending July 16, The Real Me earned 131,000 equivalent album units in the United States, according to data from analytics company Luminate.
Streaming accounted for most of the album’s audience
Of the total, 118,000 units came from streaming activity. Songs from the album generated approximately 120.29 million official on-demand streams, enabling The Real Me to debut simultaneously at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart.
Sales of physical and digital copies contributed a further 13,000 units. The release debuted at No. 9 on the separate Top Album Sales chart. The commercial performance of The Real Me was therefore driven primarily by streaming, although collectible editions also made a noticeable contribution to the final result.
Future’s team used several different album configurations. An expanded 22-track version was released on streaming services, while the downloadable digital edition contained 11 tracks. The CD version included 21 tracks and was issued in two variants, including a signed edition. The vinyl release was offered in four artwork variants and featured 13 songs.
This strategy combined the two main mechanisms of a modern album campaign: mass consumption on streaming platforms and sales of physical editions aimed at the artist’s most dedicated audience.
Future moved ahead in Billboard’s historical ranking
The Real Me became Future’s twelfth project to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Before the album’s release, the rapper was tied with Eminem at eleven chart-topping albums. Future now holds third place outright among rap artists with the most No. 1 albums, behind only Drake, who has 15 such releases, and Jay-Z, who has 14.
Across all genres, only four artists have more No. 1 albums in the chart’s history: The Beatles with 19, Drake and Taylor Swift with 15 each, and Jay-Z with 14. Following the release of The Real Me, Eminem remains on eleven Billboard 200 chart-toppers.
It is important to note that Future’s twelve No. 1 releases are not limited to his solo studio albums. Billboard counts every release that has reached the top position, including collaborative albums and commercially released mixtapes.
Future earned his first No. 1 with DS2 in 2015. It was followed by What a Time to Be Alive, recorded with Drake, EVOL, FUTURE, HNDRXX, The WIZRD, High Off Life and I Never Liked You. In 2024, the rapper added three more projects to the list: the Metro Boomin collaborations We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, as well as the solo release Mixtape Pluto.
An album without high-profile guest appearances
The Real Me was released on July 10, 2026, through Freebandz and Epic Records. It is Future’s first solo studio album since I Never Liked You, released in 2022, and his first full-length solo project since the 2024 mixtape Mixtape Pluto.
The 22-track edition contains no officially credited guest verses, with Future remaining the sole lead performer throughout the record. Production was handled by Pharrell Williams, Wheezy, ATL Jacob, Southside, DJ Spinz, Dre Moon, FnZ, TM88 and other figures from the contemporary American hip-hop scene.
The album was preceded by the single Radio. Musically, Future retains his recognisable combination of atmospheric trap, melodic rap and Auto-Tune-treated vocals. Its subject matter, however, is notably focused on the conflict between the artist’s real personality and the public image he has created.
Critics highlighted the more reflective nature of the material. Across the songs, Future addresses the psychological cost of fame, emotional burnout, dependence on his own reputation and the impossibility of fully separating the individual from the stage persona. At the same time, the album retains themes long associated with his work, including destructive relationships, distrust, loneliness and self-destruction.
One of the defining rap artists of the streaming era
The success of The Real Me confirms Future’s exceptional consistency. His first No. 1 album arrived more than a decade ago, yet the artist continues to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 within a very different economic and technological music-market environment.
Almost 90% of the new album’s opening result came from streaming. This makes the achievement particularly significant: Future has not only retained a large fan base, but remains an artist whose full-length releases are consumed on a mass scale despite containing 22 tracks.
His twelfth chart-topping album firmly establishes Future as one of the most commercially successful and influential rappers of his generation. By surpassing Eminem in the number of No. 1 albums, he has moved closer to the all-time Billboard 200 leaders and set a new historical benchmark for artists who helped shape the sound of the modern trap scene.
