The music project Resident Advisor compiled a ranking of the best DJs of 2011.
The influential electronic publication Resident Advisor has summed up the results of 2011 by publishing its annual ranking of the world’s best DJs. Unlike previous years, when the top lists were marked by stability and recurring names, 2011 became a turning point — the ranking saw a noticeable rise of new figures representing the modern techno and house movements.
Ranking leader — Jamie Jones
The top spot was confidently taken by Jamie Jones — a British DJ and producer, one of the key architects of the new house sound of the early 2010s. Throughout 2011, he played more than 140 shows worldwide and released the landmark mix Fabric 59, which became a reference point for the club scene of that era. His intensive touring schedule, releases, and influence on the development of deep and tech house made him the undisputed favorite of the year.
A year of new heroes
While the 2009–2010 Resident Advisor rankings were relatively predictable, the situation changed dramatically in 2011. The top list featured many artists who had not previously held leading positions, reflecting a shift in audience taste and a growing interest in deeper, more minimalistic, and concept-driven electronic music.

About the ranking
The Resident Advisor ranking is traditionally considered a barometer of contemporary club culture, as it is formed based on the opinions of the professional community and active listeners of the electronic scene. The 2011 results marked the definitive shift from the era of “star minimal” toward a more emotional, flexible, and artistically rich sound of house and techno.
This list largely shaped festival lineups and club trends in the years that followed, while its participants became key figures on the global electronic scene.
