New Year’s songs
New Year’s is one of the most atmospheric holidays, and its true magic lies in the details: the scent of pine needles, the twinkling of fairy lights, tangerines, and, of course, music.
Although the term "New Year’s song" is more of a thematic category, one can distinguish six key stylistic genres within this festive body of music. Each one shapes a distinct character and emotional tone for the holiday:
- Christmas jazz and traditional pop
- Festive pop
- Popular New Year’s *chanson* (variety music) and film scores (Soviet and post-Soviet popular music)
- Christmas choral hymns
- Rock ’n’ roll and Christmas rock
- Alternative and electronic winter music
