Адаптация стихотворения "К другу" Константина Николаевича Батюшкова. Написано в 1815 году. Впервые опубликовано в собрание сочинений К.Н.Батюшкова "Опыты в стихах и прозе" в 1817 году. Стихотворение посвящено князю Пётру Андреевичу Вяземскому, близкому другу и единомышленнику К.Н.Батюшкова. В тексте есть и прямое обращение, и смысловые переклички с размышлениями Вяземского о жизни и поэзии, поэтому связь с ним считается устоявшейся в литературоведении. 1815 год - это время после наполеоновских войн и больших потрясений.
