David Guetta
Sebastian Ingrosso, full name — Sebastian Carmine Ingrosso (born April 20, 1983, Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish DJ, music producer and songwriter of Italian origin. He is one of the founders of Swedish House Mafia together with Axwell and Steve Angello, a member of the project Axwell Λ Ingrosso and founder of the label Refune Records.
Ingrosso played a notable role in the development of the Swedish electronic scene of the 2000s and in the international rise of progressive house during the following decade. Beyond Swedish House Mafia, his name is associated with tracks including Calling (Lose My Mind), Reload, Kidsos, Dark River, Flood and A New Day, as well as Axwell Λ Ingrosso releases such as Sun Is Shining, More Than You Know, Something New and Dreamer.
Unlike many well-known DJs of his generation, Ingrosso did not build his solo career around a sequence of studio albums. His independent discography is based primarily on singles, EPs, collaborative projects, remixes and work with his own labels.
Childhood and first steps in music
Sebastian Ingrosso was born and raised in Stockholm in a family of Italian origin. Electronic music was part of his life from childhood: his father worked in the recording business and founded Loop Records, a label that released Swedish electronic music.
The future producer grew up surrounded by musicians and studio equipment. As a teenager, he began teaching himself music production, while Ingrosso’s first official releases appeared in the late 1990s.
His friendship with Steve Angello became especially important for his future career. They listened to records together, became interested in DJing and experimented with studio equipment. Among the recordings that Ingrosso later cited as important to his musical development was Da Funk by Daft Punk.
Early projects with Steve Angello
In the early 2000s, Ingrosso and Angello released music under several joint names. Among their best-known projects were Buy Now and Outfunk.
This practice was common on the club scene at the time: producers used different names for separate branches of house music and for releases on different labels.
Their early collaborations included For Sale, Yo Yo Kidz, Click and Umbrella. Their sound was much closer to club house and electro than to the later festival-oriented tracks of Swedish House Mafia.
In Ingrosso’s own early discography, an important release was the Mode Machine EP from 2004, featuring Get It Back and Shake. During the same period, he worked with John Dahlbäck on the Stockholm Disco EP.
Refune Records
In 2003, Sebastian Ingrosso founded Refune Records. The label became an important independent part of his career and a platform not only for the producer’s own releases.
Over the years, Refune was associated with Steve Angello, Laidback Luke, Dirty South, Funkagenda, Alesso, Otto Knows and other artists from the electronic scene.
Ingrosso was involved in discovering young producers and directly participated in their development. The best-known example was Alesso.
Alesso and Calling
In the early 2010s, Ingrosso noticed young Stockholm producer Alessandro Lindblad, who performs as Alesso. He helped him develop professional music production and DJing skills, while Universal Music materials from that period directly described Alesso as Ingrosso’s protégé.
One result of their collaboration was Calling. The instrumental version by Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso appeared in 2011.
In 2012, vocals by Ryan Tedder were added to the track, after which it was released as Calling (Lose My Mind).
The single reached No. 19 on the UK Singles Chart. The track became one of the most recognizable recordings of the early-2010s festival progressive house era.
Its structure is built around a pronounced harmonic theme and a long dynamic build. This model was characteristic of the Swedish electronic scene at a time when house music was gradually moving from clubs to major festival stages.
Otto Knows
Another artist whose development received significant attention from Ingrosso was Otto Knows.
The musician himself told DJ Mag that Ingrosso took him under his wing, helped with arrangements and studio technique, and became a mentor to him.
Otto Knows’ major early hit Million Voices was created in a room next to the studio where Ingrosso and Alesso were working on Calling. The track was later released on Refune.
Thus, the label’s importance extended beyond releasing Ingrosso’s own music: Refune became one of the platforms through which a new generation of Swedish producers gained access to an international audience.
Collaboration with Axwell
A separate line of Sebastian Ingrosso’s career is connected with Axwell. They began releasing music together long before Swedish House Mafia was formed.
In 2005, they released Together, followed later by It's True and other studio works.
These recordings already show an approach that would later become especially characteristic of Axwell Λ Ingrosso: an electronic track is built not only around rhythm and climax but also around an independent melody.
Get Dumb and Leave the World Behind
In 2007, Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke released Get Dumb.
Two years later, the four producers reunited for Leave the World Behind, featuring vocals by Deborah Cox.
The track is considered one of the most important recordings from the period immediately before Swedish House Mafia developed a full discography of its own. It already contained elements that would later become characteristic of festival electronic music: a large vocal line, extended development, and a combination of pop melody with club structure.
Swedish House Mafia
Swedish House Mafia took shape as a trio consisting of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello in 2008. Before that, the musicians had already performed and recorded together numerous times.
The project’s first major original single was One, released in 2010. It was followed by Miami 2 Ibiza, Save the World, Antidote, Greyhound and Don't You Worry Child.
Swedish House Mafia became one of the projects that defined the transition of European house music from the club environment to arenas and the world’s biggest international festivals.
Save the World and the Grammys
In 2011, the group released Save the World featuring vocals by John Martin. The track reached No. 10 on the UK chart.
Save the World earned Sebastian Ingrosso his first Grammy nomination in the category Best Dance/Electronic Recording.
A year later, Don't You Worry Child, also recorded with John Martin, was released. The song topped the UK Singles Chart and became the biggest international single of Swedish House Mafia’s first era.
The track earned Ingrosso his second Grammy nomination in the same category.
According to the Recording Academy, Sebastian Ingrosso has two Grammy nominations and no wins.
One Last Tour
In 2012, Swedish House Mafia announced that they would end their joint activities after a final touring cycle.
One Last Tour concluded in March 2013 at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
After that, Steve Angello focused mainly on his solo career and SIZE Records, while Ingrosso continued his close collaboration with Axwell.
Reload
One of Sebastian Ingrosso’s biggest works outside Swedish House Mafia was Reload, created with Australian producer Tommy Trash.
The instrumental version appeared in 2012. A vocal version featuring John Martin was recorded later.
In 2013, Reload reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and topped the British dance chart.
The track became Ingrosso’s most successful UK-charting single outside Swedish House Mafia.
Like Calling, it is built around a strong instrumental melody capable of functioning as a chorus even without vocals.
Roar and Monsters University
In 2013, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell recorded the instrumental track Roar for the Pixar animated film Monsters University.
The track was included on the official Walt Disney Records soundtrack and was used during a university party scene.
The work appeared during the transitional period between the end of Swedish House Mafia’s first era and the creation of the full Axwell Λ Ingrosso project.
Axwell Λ Ingrosso
In 2014, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell formed the duo Axwell Λ Ingrosso.
The project developed a sound distinct from Swedish House Mafia. It retained the scale of progressive house while giving a much larger role to traditional song structure, vocals and dance-pop.
The first major single was Something New, which reached No. 22 on the UK chart. It was followed by On My Way and Sun Is Shining.
Sun Is Shining
Sun Is Shining became one of the best-known early works by Axwell Λ Ingrosso.
The track combines piano harmony, a vocal chorus and a gradually developing electronic arrangement. Compared with the harder works of early Swedish House Mafia, the pop-song element is considerably more pronounced.
This Time and the charity project
In 2015, the duo released This Time. The release was connected with a campaign supporting the work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Proceeds from the track were directed toward helping people forced to leave their homes.
Dark River
Alongside Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Sebastian continued releasing separate works.
In 2016, he released FLAGS!, recorded with LIOHN and Salvatore Ganacci, as well as the solo track Dark River.
Dark River differed noticeably from Ingrosso’s more melodic festival hits. It is dominated by a darker sound, harder rhythms and minimal use of a vocal pop-song structure.
Dark River (Festival Version) remained his last new solo single until 2024.
More Than You Know
On May 24, 2017, Axwell Λ Ingrosso released the four-track More Than You Know EP.
It included:
- More Than You Know;
- Renegade;
- How Do You Feel Right Now;
- Dawn.
The material was later included on More Than You Know (Bonus Track Edition), a 15-track full-length release combining new material with earlier singles by the duo. Apple Music classifies this edition as a compilation.
The title track More Than You Know became Axwell Λ Ingrosso’s biggest international hit.
The song reached No. 30 on the UK Singles Chart and remained on the main British chart for thirteen weeks. Its results were considerably stronger in several other European countries.
In the track, club electronic production is almost completely subordinated to the structure of a modern pop song: the guitar motif, Kristoffer Fogelmark’s vocals and a short chorus become the central elements of the recording.
The later period of Axwell Λ Ingrosso
At the end of 2017, the duo released Dreamer. In 2018, Dancing Alone followed.
By this point, Axwell Λ Ingrosso existed as an independent international project with its own catalog, but the duo’s future work changed after the unexpected return of Swedish House Mafia.
Swedish House Mafia reunion
On March 25, 2018, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello unexpectedly performed together again at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
It was Swedish House Mafia’s first live appearance after a five-year break.
During the first years after the reunion, the group focused mainly on live performances. New studio singles appeared in 2021: It Gets Better, Lifetime and Moth to a Flame with The Weeknd.
Paradise Again
On April 15, 2022, Swedish House Mafia released Paradise Again, the first full-length studio album in the trio’s history.
The earlier releases Until One and Until Now were compilation projects, while Paradise Again was created as a standalone album of new material.
It included Time, Heaven Takes You Home, Moth to a Flame, Mafia, Frankenstein, Don't Go Mad, Paradise Again, Lifetime, Calling On, Home, It Gets Better, Redlight and other tracks.
Compared with the group’s 2010–2012 music, the sound became darker and more diverse. The album features house, hip-hop, synthpop, big beat and more minimalist electronic forms.
Moth to a Flame became one of the major international singles of this period and reached No. 15 on the UK chart.
Work with Salvatore Ganacci
In 2022, Ingrosso and Salvatore Ganacci created the official remix of The Weeknd’s How Do I Make You Love Me?
The release appeared separately from Swedish House Mafia and continued Ingrosso’s independent studio activity.
New work with Steve Angello
In the 2020s, Ingrosso once again intensified his independent collaboration with Steve Angello.
In 2023, together with the Italian duo PARISI, they released U Ok?. In 2024, the track Skip followed.
In April 2025, Ingrosso and Angello presented No Enemies featuring vocals by Swedish singer Namasenda.
These releases exist separately from the Swedish House Mafia catalog and continue the partnership between the two producers that began in the early 2000s.
Flood
On October 18, 2024, Sebastian Ingrosso released the solo single Flood.
It was his first independent release of this kind since Dark River (Festival Version) in 2016. The producer himself connected the track with changes that had taken place in his life and musical thinking during the years of his solo hiatus.
Flood moves noticeably away from the bright progressive house of the early 2010s. The track is dominated by a darker club atmosphere, dense rhythms and a restrained melodic structure.
The release became Ingrosso’s first significant solo work of a new creative period.
A New Day with Céline Dion
On July 25, 2025, Ingrosso released A New Day, officially credited as A New Day (feat. Céline Dion).
The track uses reworked vocal material from Céline Dion’s 2002 song A New Day Has Come. It is not a traditional studio duet recorded by both artists together, but an officially authorized new work based on vocals from the original recording.
In the official Apple Music credits, Céline Dion is listed as a performer, while Sebastian Ingrosso is credited as performer, composer and producer. Aldo Nova, Stephan Moccio and Yaro Polikarpov are also listed among the songwriters.
Dion publicly supported the new version by posting a video of herself listening to the track.
A New Day continued the direction established by Flood: a recognizable emotional melody combined with darker contemporary electronic production.
Peace of Flood
On September 12, 2025, Sebastian Ingrosso, Martin Garrix and French duo Citadelle released Peace of Flood.
The single was released jointly through SUPERHUMAN and STMPD RCRDS.
The title directly refers to Flood, but the track is a full collaborative work by several producers. The official credits list Ingrosso, Martin Garrix, Citadelle, Klahr, Gino Nano, YARO, Osrin and Tove Burman among the producers.
SUPERHUMAN
A new phase in the activity of Swedish House Mafia and its individual members is connected with SUPERHUMAN.
The project was created by Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso as a Stockholm-based multidisciplinary creative company and music platform.
The SUPERHUMAN name had already been used on selected releases in 2024, including Flood, while in 2025 the project was publicly presented by Swedish House Mafia as their new creative home.
SUPERHUMAN has released recordings by Swedish House Mafia itself as well as solo and collaborative works by its members, including Flood, No Enemies, A New Day and Peace of Flood.
Swedish House Mafia in a new era
After Paradise Again, Swedish House Mafia continued releasing standalone singles. These included See the Light, Ray of Solar, Lioness with Niki & The Dove, Finally with Alicia Keys and Wait So Long (Why Do I Have To).
In 2026, the trio continued its studio activity. On July 31, they released the single Happiness Is So Sad with Swedish singer Lykke Li.
The track became Swedish House Mafia’s first official release of 2026 and continued the group’s development beyond the Paradise Again period.
Why Sebastian Ingrosso does not have a traditional solo album discography
Ingrosso’s solo catalog is structured differently from the discographies of many pop and rock artists. He does not have a sequence of original studio albums under his own name.

Musical style
Throughout his career, Sebastian Ingrosso’s music has covered house, electro house, progressive house, dance-pop and darker contemporary forms of club electronic music.
One of the most consistent features of his production approach is his focus on melody. In Calling and Reload, the harmonic theme plays no less important a role than the rhythm or electronic climax.
A second important characteristic is his use of dynamics. His DJ experience is evident in the structure of his tracks: tension gradually builds through changes in the arrangement and resolves in the climactic section.
In later works, including Dark River, Flood and A New Day, this approach remains, but the sound becomes darker and less dependent on the festival progressive house formula of the early 2010s.
The importance of Refune and work with other artists
Ingrosso’s influence on electronic music is connected not only with his own tracks.
Through Refune, he participated in the development of a new wave of Swedish producers. Alesso received support from Ingrosso at an early stage of his international career, while Otto Knows repeatedly named him as one of his main mentors.
This work complements Ingrosso’s career as an artist: he contributed not only to the rise of Swedish House Mafia but also to the development of the environment from which other well-known representatives of the Swedish electronic scene emerged.
Sebastian Ingrosso’s place in electronic music
Sebastian Ingrosso’s career has developed largely through collaborations. In the early 2000s, he worked with Steve Angello, later founded Refune, supported young producers, recorded Calling with Alesso and Reload with Tommy Trash, while as a member of Swedish House Mafia he helped create some of the best-known electronic singles of the early 2010s.
After the first ending of Swedish House Mafia, his duo with Axwell allowed him to develop a more song-oriented side of electronic music. Sun Is Shining and More Than You Know became the biggest works of this period.
His return to solo releases with Flood, work with Céline Dion on A New Day, and collaboration with Martin Garrix and Citadelle on Peace of Flood demonstrated the continued evolution of his production language without attempting to literally reproduce the sound of the Calling and Reload era.
