MELOVIN (real name Konstantin Nikolayevich Bocharov, born April 11, 1997, Odessa, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. He is the winner of the 6th season of “The X Factor” and the 2nd season of “The Mask”. He represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2018, where he finished in 17th place, while ranking among the audience’s notable favorites in the final televote (a strong public score alongside a low jury score).
Early Years: Odessa, Theatre, and Stage Discipline
MELOVIN was born and raised in Odessa. His family was not connected to show business: his mother, Valentyna Volodymyrivna Bocharova, worked as an accountant, and his father, Mykola Volodymyrovych Bocharov, was a driver. His first emotional encounter with music happened very early: at the age of four, his grandmother gave Konstantin a music box playing Beethoven’s “Für Elise”—an image often seen as an “entry point” into the future artist’s musical way of thinking.
From 2003, he studied at Odessa School No. 27: he sang in the school choir, took part in productions, wrote scripts, and continuously practiced performing—up to “mini-concerts” during breaks. What matters in his story is that the stage did not appear by accident, but as a daily habit and a natural form of communication.
In 2009, Konstantin enrolled in the Folk Theatre School “Samotsvity”, where he gained a strong foundation in acting. His teacher was Mariia Hryhorivna Stelmakh, and later Honored Artist of Ukraine Nataliia Yevheniivna Buzko (an actress from the “Maski Show” comedy troupe). He became a laureate of city acting competitions and hosted city events—developing not only vocal skills but also full stage competence: delivery, psychology, and audience connection.
After graduating from theatre school with honors (2012), he tried himself in the behind-the-scenes industry—working as an assistant to the on-set administrator of the TV series “The Longest Day”. It’s a rare detail that shows: from an early age, MELOVIN understood that music and the stage are also about organizing a process.
Pseudonym and Team: The Birth of the MELOVIN Brand
In 2013, the stage name Melovin appeared and the team “Big House Melovin” was formed. The artist explains the name as a reference to two things: Halloween and the surname of designer Alexander McQueen. The point here is not only the fact but the meaning: the pseudonym was built from the start as a stylistic code—at the intersection of drama, fashion, and theatricality.
In September 2015, he entered the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music, cementing his commitment to professional musical development.
“The X Factor” (2015): A Moment of National Recognition
In 2015, Konstantin took part in the 6th season of “The X Factor” and made it to the televised auditions. A key story detail was the support of his grandmother, which became his main motivation to compete.
The mentor for the “Boys” category was Igor Kondratyuk, who noted the contestant’s persistence and talent and took him onto his team. Throughout the season, MELOVIN was never placed in the elimination zone—an indicator of steady viewer support.
In the final, he performed a duet with Jamala, singing her song “Zaplutalas”. On December 26, 2015, at the gala concert, he received the title of the season’s winner—which became the foundation for his дальнейшей career as a solo artist.
2016–2017: First Releases and a Turn Toward the International Stage
In 2016, MELOVIN officially released his debut track “Ne odynoka”.
In 2017, he became a finalist of the national selection for Eurovision 2017 with the song “Wonder”. The crucial point: he received the maximum number of audience votes (60,000) but finished second due to the gap between jury and public opinions. This is an early marker in his career: strong popular support + mixed professional reception, which would later repeat at Eurovision 2018.
After the selection, he presented the track “Unbroken”, which also reached leading chart positions and held number one for two weeks.
On November 10, 2017, his debut EP Face to Face (label BIG HOUSE MELOVIN) was released. The mini-album matters as a manifesto: it declared a blend of styles—from pop forms to alternative shades. It includes six tracks, one in Ukrainian (“Svit v poloni”) and the rest in English. The premiere took place at the Atlas venue.
Eurovision 2018: A Breakthrough That Became His Calling Card
In 2018, MELOVIN became Ukraine’s representative at Eurovision with the song “Under the Ladder”.
-
February 17, 2018: victory in the second semi-final of the national selection (17 points: 8 from the jury + 9 from the audience).
-
February 24, 2018: victory in the national final (11 points: 5 from the jury + 6 from the audience).
-
April 30, 2018: the official music video for “Under the Ladder” was released (dir. Taras Holubkov).
-
At Eurovision in Lisbon, he qualified for the final and finished 17th. The results showed a vivid contrast: 11 points from the jury and 119 from the televote, where he ranked much higher with viewers.
This contrast is an important point: MELOVIN is an artist who knows how to create a stage effect that hooks a mass audience, even when professional juries respond more cautiously.
Octopus (2018–2019): A More Mature Sound and a Concept Album
After Eurovision, MELOVIN released the single “That’s Your Role” (August 27, 2018), signaling a shift in his visual code (including a contact-lens change—a detail that emphasized the turn in his image).
The key milestone was the album Octopus, released on October 25, 2019 (label BIG HOUSE MELOVIN). The concept is “wired” into the structure: 8 tracks as a reference to the octopus’s “eight legs.” The tracklist includes six songs in English and two in Ukrainian; each composition is presented as a separate story. The premiere took place at Atlas for 1,500 attendees.
After 2020: TV Victory, New Eurovision Attempts, and Expert Status
In 2021, MELOVIN took part in “The Mask” (as the Giraffe) and won the final on December 25, 2021, proving that he is strong not only in a “song contest” format, but also in televised shows where image, intrigue, and vocal discipline matter.
In 2024, he attempted to represent Ukraine at Eurovision again: he became a national selection finalist with the song “Dreamer” and finished in 3rd place.
In 2025, MELOVIN was selected as a Ukrainian jury member for Eurovision 2025—a decision made by public voting in the Diia app. He awarded his top score to Germany (duo Abor & Tynna — “Baller”), second to Estonia (Tommy Cash — “Espresso Macchiato”), and third to Luxembourg (Laura Thorn — “La poupée monte le son”). This was no longer the position of a contestant, but of a professional evaluator within the contest system.
Personal Life and Public Stance
On July 5, 2021, at Atlas Weekend in Kyiv, MELOVIN came out as bisexual: on stage, he kissed a woman and a man, then raised a rainbow flag. After the performance, he publicly expressed outrage that the moment was not included in the live broadcast on the M1 TV channel. This episode закрепил his image as an artist who sees the stage not only as entertainment, but also as a space for statements.
On November 23, 2025, he became engaged to Ukrainian Armed Forces paramedic Petro Zlotei on Independence Square—an event that carried symbolic weight and reinforced attention to his personal story as part of his public image.

Editorial Summary
MELOVIN is an example of an artist for whom the stage is a space for honesty and self-expression. His path is a move from television formats toward a distinct artistic identity, where music, image, and personal conviction come together as a cohesive author-driven project.
