Felix Jaehn
Fedde Le Grand is a Dutch DJ, music producer and remixer, born on 7 September 1977 in Utrecht. He achieved international recognition in 2006 with the release of Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, then consolidated his success with The Creeps, Let Me Think About It, 3 Minutes to Explain, Metrum, So Much Love and other releases. House has remained the foundation of his music throughout his career — from the electro house of the mid-2000s to later progressive, mainstage, tech house and club-oriented styles.
Unlike many electronic artists, Fedde Le Grand is the musician’s real name, not a stage alias. The producer has said that early in his career he simply could not come up with an artist name he liked, so he ultimately decided to release music under his own name.
Early career
Fedde developed an interest in house music during the 1990s. He began performing in clubs in his native Utrecht before securing a residency at Danssalon in Eindhoven, one of the notable Dutch clubs of that period. By the end of the 1990s, Le Grand was already working regularly as a DJ and gradually moving from club performances into producing his own music.
Fedde did not receive formal academic music training: his professional development was built entirely through practical experience in clubs, DJing and independent production work.
Flamingo Recordings
In 2004, Fedde Le Grand founded the independent label Flamingo Recordings together with DJ and producer Funkerman and Raf Jansen. Establishing their own label proved decisive for the next stage of his career, giving the artists the freedom to release music that larger companies had rejected.
Fedde later recalled that the team had sent early tracks to Defected, Subliminal and Spinnin' Records. Several labels also turned down what would become his biggest hit, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, after which the musicians decided to release it themselves through Flamingo.
Put Your Hands Up For Detroit
On 24 July 2006, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit was released — the track that became Fedde Le Grand’s international breakthrough.
The minimalist electro house track is built around a hard club groove and a vocal sample from Matthew Dear and Disco D’s Hands Up for Detroit. After spreading among DJs, the record quickly moved beyond the club circuit and into the commercial charts.
In the United Kingdom, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit reached No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart. The single spent 30 weeks on the UK chart and remains Fedde Le Grand’s only British No. 1 to date.
The track became one of the defining records of the electro house wave of the second half of the 2000s and brought the Dutch producer onto the international club scene.
The Creeps and Let Me Think About It
Two more of the biggest commercial successes of his career followed in 2007.
Fedde Le Grand produced a new version of Danish singer Camille Jones’ The Creeps. Released as Camille Jones vs Fedde Le Grand, the remix reached No. 7 on the UK Official Singles Chart.
That same year, Danish singer Ida Corr released Let Me Think About It in a Fedde Le Grand version. It proved even more successful, climbing to No. 2 in the UK and spending 25 weeks on the chart.
As a result, between 2006 and 2007 Fedde Le Grand scored three UK Top 10 hits: Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, The Creeps and Let Me Think About It.
Flamingo Nights and the development of his own sound
Against the backdrop of international success, the Flamingo team began developing not only the label but also its own club events. In 2007, the Flamingo Nights series launched in Amsterdam, built around the artists and musical aesthetic of the label. In 2008, Fedde released the mix compilation Flamingo Nights, Vol. 1: Ibiza.
Fedde’s music during this period sat at the intersection of house and electro house. Instead of densely layered vocal arrangements, many tracks were built around short samples, heavy basslines, syncopated synthesizers and club-focused rhythms.
At the same time, he continued collaborating with Funkerman. One notable joint release was 3 Minutes to Explain featuring Shermanology.
Output
In 2009, Fedde Le Grand released his debut studio album Output.
The digital edition on Apple Music contains 13 tracks. The album includes Get This Feeling, Let Me Be Real with Mitch Crown, Back & Forth with Mr. V, 3 Minutes to Explain with Funkerman and Shermanology, and other tracks.
Output demonstrated a broader range than Put Your Hands Up For Detroit: alongside harder electro house, the album incorporated vocal house, funk influences and more song-oriented structures.
By the time the album was released, Fedde was no longer regarded simply as the producer behind one major club hit, but as an established artist with his own label and an international touring schedule.
Remixes
A significant part of Fedde Le Grand’s discography consists of official remixes.
Over the years, he has worked with material by Coldplay, Madonna, Fatboy Slim, Faithless, Shakira, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams and other artists. These collaborations are also documented in his official biography.
In 2009, his version of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You received an official release. Fedde had originally created it as a personal DJ edit, but Norman Cook approved the reworking for release.
In 2011, an official remix of Coldplay — Paradise was released on Toolroom Records.
In 2014, Fedde reworked Shakira and Rihanna’s Can't Remember To Forget You, while in 2015 he released remixes of Madonna feat. Nicki Minaj’s Bitch I'm Madonna and Faithless’ Insomnia.
Metrum, So Much Love and the 2010s
After Output, Fedde largely returned to a singles-focused release model.
Among his most notable works from the early 2010s are Metrum, So Much Love, Sparks (Turn Off Your Mind) with Nicky Romero and Matthew Koma, RAW, No Good, Where We Belong and Long Way From Home with Sultan + Ned Shepard. These tracks reflect his gradual shift away from the electro house sound of the mid-2000s towards a larger-scale progressive and festival house approach.
During this period, Fedde Le Grand regularly appeared at some of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals. His official touring biography lists Coachella, Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Mysteryland, Sensation, Electric Zoo and other major events.
Darklight Recordings
In 2015, Fedde Le Grand launched his new label Darklight Recordings, which became the successor to Flamingo Recordings. One of the first major releases of this new phase was Tales of Tomorrow, a collaboration with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike that later received a vocal version featuring Julian Perretta.
Darklight was not conceived as a label restricted to one narrow genre. Fedde explained that its guiding principle was to discover artists and music with fresh ideas without requiring them to fit into one specific form of house.
Darklight has released both Le Grand’s own recordings and music by other producers.
Something Real
On 26 February 2016, Fedde Le Grand released his second studio album Something Real.
The album continued to expand his sound beyond classic electro house. Its material incorporates house, progressive, dance-pop and festival-oriented electronic music. An expanded edition, Something Real Deluxe, followed at the end of 2016.
The album era included Keep On Believing, Give Me Some, Feel Good, Cinematic, Beauty From The Ashes, Lost and other tracks.
After Something Real, Fedde once again focused mainly on individual singles, collaborations and club releases.
Darklight Sessions
Fedde Le Grand’s own radio programme is called Darklight Sessions.
It is a regular DJ show featuring Fedde’s own releases, music from Darklight Recordings and new house and club tracks from other producers. The programme has been running for many years and continues to air in 2026; for example, episode No. 711 was broadcast on 3 April 2026.
Musical style
Throughout his career, Fedde Le Grand’s sound has evolved alongside the house scene.
His international breakthrough in the mid-2000s was associated primarily with electro house: dry drums, short vocal samples, elastic synth basslines and minimalist arrangements.
In the early 2010s, progressive house and a more expansive festival-oriented sound became more prominent in his music. Something Real introduced stronger dance-pop elements and more vocal-led compositions.
Later, Fedde once again placed greater emphasis on club-focused house. In 2025–2026, his own releases and DJ sets span house and tech house while retaining the rhythm- and groove-driven approach characteristic of his earlier work.
2024–2026
In recent years, Fedde Le Grand has continued to release new club music on a regular basis.
In 2024, he released I Just Wanna Party, I Am Ready, Baby Can You Reach with Todd Terry and Rowetta, as well as Got To Believe with DJ Disciple and Progression.
In 2025, his catalogue expanded with Who Got The Funk, Rude Boy, Turntable Truth with Funkerman, Here Comes The Bass with DJ Tora, The Rhythm with Sansixto, Liquid Music, Got Your Money, Grinnin' with Roger Sanchez and other releases.
In 2026, he released 1, 2 Step, This Is A Groove and Monster. The latter was released on 5 June via Darklight Recordings and falls within tech house, with Fedde focusing on a dense groove and club structure characteristic of his current DJ sets.

His discography spans several stages in the development of modern club music — from the electro house of the mid-2000s and festival-oriented progressive house of the early 2010s to contemporary house and tech house. Put Your Hands Up For Detroit, The Creeps and Let Me Think About It remain the biggest international chart successes of his early career, while Darklight continues his work as an independent producer and label owner.
