Farrago is the stage name of Belgian DJ and music producer Sam Deliaert. His music combines techno with trance, hard techno, rave, psytrance, gabber and atmospheric electronic music. Before launching Farrago, the musician released experimental work under the name Talbot Wood.
Important stages of his career include releases on ARTS and LENSKE, participation in EXHALE projects, collaborations with Amelie Lens and the launch of his own label, Vermillion Trax. The producer’s first full-length album was Blesssed, released in 2023.
Early musical interests
Sam Deliaert’s musical taste was shaped by skate culture, heavy guitar music and the Belgian club scene. In his youth, he listened to hardcore punk, hard rock and metal, later developing an interest in raves and electronic music.
Belgium’s traditions of new beat, techno and early rave became an important part of his musical background. Deliaert was attracted not only to particular rhythms or timbres, but also to the culture of independent communities that formed around skateboarding, punk and illegal parties.
The Talbot Wood project
Before beginning his career as Farrago, the musician worked under the name Talbot Wood. This project was associated with ambient, dub techno and experimental electronic music.
Deliaert was interested in soundtrack composition and viewed electronic music as a way of shaping space and atmosphere. Talbot Wood’s compositions focused on textures, noise, slowly developing synthesiser parts and mood.
In 2013, the track Vacant Depth (Intro) appeared on a compilation released by Other Heights. It was followed by the Dream Sequence EP on Curle Recordings. During this period, Deliaert also performed a live set at European club venues.
The experience of Talbot Wood remained important after the musician moved towards harder techno. Extended synthesiser layers, arpeggios and attention to musical development later became prominent elements of the Farrago sound.
The emergence of Farrago
The Farrago alias appeared in the mid-2010s. The English word farrago refers to a mixture of diverse elements. The name reflected Deliaert’s intention to combine different forms of electronic music without restricting the project to a single genre.
Farrago developed the ideas explored through Talbot Wood but placed a stronger emphasis on the club dance floor. Atmospheric synthesisers and melodic arpeggios were combined with a straight kick drum, dense percussion and a more functional compositional structure.
The project’s early sound was built on a balance between melody and rhythm. The synthesiser parts carried the emotional content, while the drums created the track’s physical momentum.
First releases on ARTS
Farrago’s first notable release was the EP Where Angels Go Trouble Will Follow, issued by ARTS on March 3, 2017. It included the tracks Her, Where Angels Go, I Serve and Trouble Will Follow.
The material retained a connection with Deliaert’s earlier period. The tracks developed gradually, combining minimalist techno structures with atmospheric synthesisers and repeating melodic figures.
In July 2017, ARTS released Farrago and Amelie Lens’s collaborative record Weight of the Land. Alongside the title track and a remix by François X, it included Purge and Circling the Sun. The release marked the beginning of their regular studio collaboration.
In 2018, Farrago released the EP Hard Light on ARTS. It included Hard Light, Eos, Visions of Eternity, Desperate Flourish and Sundance. The release featured denser rhythms and a more pronounced influence from rave music.
LENSKE and the Risin’ EP
In 2018, Amelie Lens founded the label LENSKE. The first release in its catalogue was Farrago’s Risin’ EP.
The record included The Riddler, Risin’, Jealousy and Hidden Power. Jealousy was recorded with Amelie Lens, while the title track received a remix by Kobosil.
Risin’ marked Farrago’s transition towards a more direct and heavier sound. The tracks were built around powerful kick drums, mechanical percussion and tense synthesiser parts. At the same time, the producer retained the extended transitions and melodic passages that distinguished him from artists working exclusively with functional techno.
Neontrance
In 2019, LENSKE released the Neontrance EP. Its title reflected the record’s defining feature: the combination of techno and trance.
Farrago began to use higher tempos, bright arpeggios and euphoric synthesiser sequences more actively. Trance melodies were not set against the heavy club rhythm but became part of the overall structure.
Neontrance played an important role in shaping Farrago’s mature style. The combination of a heavy kick drum, rave energy and emotional melodies later became characteristic not only of his own work but also of a significant part of the European techno scene in the early 2020s.
His collaboration with Amelie Lens also continued during this period: their joint track Purge was included on an anniversary compilation released by ARTS.
Kidney Shot
On April 3, 2020, Farrago released the Kidney Shot EP on LENSKE. It contained four tracks: Fall to Ruin, Kidney Shot, Flavours of Youth and Vizio.
On Fall to Ruin and Kidney Shot, industrial rhythms are combined with trance synthesisers and extended buildups. Flavours of Youth reveals more of the producer’s melodic side, while Vizio offers a more direct club sound.
Kidney Shot reinforced Farrago’s movement towards a more intense form of techno. The music, however, was not reduced to speed and impact: the tracks retained changes of mood, spatial processing and melodic resolutions.
EXHALE and international performances
Farrago became a regular participant in EXHALE events created around Amelie Lens. Together with AIROD, Milo Spykers, Ahl Iver, Regal and other artists, he represented the faster and more rave-oriented side of the project.
As part of EXHALE, the producer performed at international clubs and festivals, including events at DC-10 in Ibiza. His touring history also came to include Awakenings, OFFSónar and Kappa FuturFestival.
For Farrago, EXHALE became not only a series of performances but also a platform for exchanging music between artists working at the intersection of techno, trance and hard dance.
Stroke and return to work
In 2020, Farrago suffered a stroke following an accident. The brain injury was serious, and for some time the musician was uncertain whether he would be able to return to full-time studio work and live performances.
After a lengthy rehabilitation, Deliaert made an almost complete recovery. The experience affected his relationship with music and became one of the reasons he decided not to postpone work on his first album.
Returning to the studio became the central theme of the next stage of his career. Farrago later connected the title of his debut album with his gratitude for being able to continue making music.
Flashpoint
On March 25, 2022, LENSKE released the Flashpoint EP. The record included Quieto (Flashpoint Mix), No Competition, Beleiv and Disc 1.
Flashpoint continued his approach to fast techno with trance and rave elements. Farrago used the contrast between melodic breaks and heavy rhythmic climaxes, avoiding a monotonous structure based solely on constant percussive pressure.
Vermillion Trax
To release his debut album, Farrago founded his own label, Vermillion Trax. This allowed him to determine the release schedule, track listing, artwork and overall artistic concept independently.
From the beginning, the label was intended to be more than a platform for Farrago’s own music. Deliaert planned to release tracks by other producers that he played in his sets and that had attracted the attention of his audience.
The name Vermillion Trax refers to the vivid red colour vermilion. This visual image corresponds with the label’s aesthetic, based on saturated colours and contrasting design.
The album Blesssed
On May 19, 2023, Farrago released his debut full-length album, Blesssed. The record appeared on Vermillion Trax and contained ten tracks.
The title is deliberately written with three letters s. It expresses the musician’s gratitude for returning to life and creativity after his stroke.
The starting point for the album was the track Ducky Tribal Mission. While working on it, Farrago established the overall direction of the record. One of his reference points was the club and visual culture of the late 1990s and early 2000s, the period when Deliaert began attending parties and discovering electronic music.

The sound of Blesssed
Blesssed is not structured as a continuous sequence of heavy club tracks. Farrago alternates high-speed compositions with short atmospheric episodes and interludes.
The opening track, A Possible Future for Mankind, establishes a futuristic context. Naked Light combines hard techno, industrial elements and trance melodies. On Ducky Tribal Mission, a heavy kick drum interacts with tribal percussion and psychedelic elements.
We Talk on the Phone and You Have Power function as transitional pieces. They return the listener to Deliaert’s experimental and ambient side, which had already taken shape during the Talbot Wood period.
The closing section of the album includes Everything Is Going to Be Daijoubu. The Japanese word daijoubu can be translated as “everything is all right” or “everything will be fine.” The track was created after Farrago decided to add a complete atmospheric composition to the album. One of its musical reference points was Daft Punk’s album Discovery.
Addicted to Bass with Amelie Lens
Addicted to Bass, recorded with Amelie Lens, was released on April 14, 2023. It became the first single from the album campaign and the first release on Vermillion Trax.
The track is built around a short vocal phrase, a massive bassline and a direct club rhythm. Compared with Farrago’s more atmospheric work, it places greater emphasis on functionality for a large dance floor.
Addicted to Bass continued Deliaert and Lens’s series of collaborations, which also includes Weight of the Land, Purge and Jealousy.
Studio work
Farrago usually begins creating a track with a specific idea: a melodic pattern, rhythmic sequence, voice note or short synthesiser hook.
At an early stage, he tests the main musical phrase over a kick drum. If it retains its impact in a minimal form, the producer develops the composition by adding percussion, transitions, effects and additional synthesiser layers.
While working on Blesssed, Farrago used Ableton Live, the Wavetable synthesiser, the Multiband Dynamics processor and his own field recordings. He saves unused results from sound experiments as processing chains and templates for future tracks.
For his earlier live performance setup, the musician also used the Elektron Octatrack and Analog Four. The Octatrack functioned as the central device for playback and processing, while the Analog Four was used for synthesis and sequencing.
DJ style
In his DJ sets, Farrago combines techno, hard techno, trance and psytrance. The tempo and selection of material depend on the venue, the duration of the performance and the audience’s response.
His sets are built around contrasts. Heavy tracks give way to melodic or psychedelic passages, while extended high-speed sections may be interrupted by atmospheric breaks.
Farrago does not attempt to remain within the boundaries of a single microgenre. His approach is based on the gradual development of a set and the ability to connect different forms of music within a unified dramatic structure.
Techno 2.0
Farrago uses the term Techno 2.0 to describe music in which techno interacts freely with trance, gabber, hardstyle, hardcore and psytrance.
It is not a separate genre with established rules but a description of an approach. Stylistic purity is replaced by a focus on dance-floor energy and the combination of different musical languages.
In Farrago’s work, this principle appears through high tempos, heavy kick drums, bright synthesiser hooks, psychedelic sequences and abrupt dynamic changes. Spatial and atmospheric elements connect his contemporary material with his earlier work as Talbot Wood.
Radical Love Club
On November 24, 2023, Farrago and German producer CARV released the collaborative EP Radical Love Club on Vermillion Trax.
The release included:

- Radical Love Club.
The EP combined Farrago’s trance melodies with CARV’s more aggressive hard techno production. The release also confirmed that Vermillion Trax was developing as a platform for collaborative projects rather than solely as Deliaert’s personal label.
Drop It and Blesssed RMX
On June 14, 2024, Farrago released the collaborative single Drop It with Per Pleks. Sam Deliaert and Lukas Wiegand are credited as the track’s writers and producers.
The composition combines a melodic break with a heavy festival climax and is more strongly oriented towards the contemporary hard dance scene than the material on Blesssed.
On December 6, 2024, the remix release Blesssed RMX appeared. It included reinterpretations of tracks from the album:

The choice of remixers expanded the stylistic range of the original material towards hard techno, bass music and hardcore.
Are Am Eye? remix
On July 25, 2025, Farrago released a remix of Are Am Eye? by German producer Commander Tom. The rework was created to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the original track.
Are Am Eye? belongs to the classic European hard trance of the 1990s. Farrago retained the composition’s recognisable elements while adapting its rhythm and density to the contemporary club scene.
Farrago and Amelie Lens
Sam Deliaert and Amelie Lens met at a rave on her eighteenth birthday. They were in a relationship for many years and married in the summer of 2022.
Their creative collaboration includes the releases Weight of the Land, Purge, Jealousy and Addicted to Bass. Farrago also became one of the regular artists associated with LENSKE and EXHALE.
His discography, however, is not limited to his work with Lens. Releases on ARTS, the early Talbot Wood project, the album Blesssed, the Vermillion Trax label and collaborations with CARV and Per Pleks established an independent creative direction.
Farrago’s musical style
The foundation of Farrago’s music remains techno with a straight kick drum, cyclical structures and a focus on club use.
Trance appears through emotional arpeggios, bright synthesiser themes and extended buildups. Psytrance influences the psychedelic sequences and continuous movement of the bassline. Hard techno and hardcore can be heard in the heavy drums and high tempos.
The project’s ambient side emerges in introductions, interludes and atmospheric compositions. It is directly connected with Deliaert’s experience under the Talbot Wood name.
Farrago does not treat these genres as isolated elements. His method is based on combining them within a single track or DJ set: an atmospheric melody may play over heavy rhythms, while a trance break may lead into a climax containing hardcore elements.

Farrago’s significance for the contemporary techno scene
Farrago is among the producers who brought expressive elements of trance, early rave, hard dance and hardcore back into contemporary techno. His music does not copy the sound of the 1990s but uses its melodic language and energy in combination with modern production.
The project developed in a consistent progression. Talbot Wood established Deliaert’s interest in atmosphere and sonic space. The releases on ARTS marked his transition towards techno. The Risin’ EP opened the LENSKE catalogue, while Neontrance and Kidney Shot consolidated his combination of heavy rhythms and trance.
After his recovery, Farrago released Blesssed and created Vermillion Trax, gaining an independent platform for albums, collaborations and music by other artists.
