Billie Eilish (full name — Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell; born December 18, 2001, Los Angeles, California, USA) is an American singer and songwriter. She first gained widespread attention with «Ocean Eyes», while her global breakthrough came with the album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and the single «Bad Guy».

Childhood and family
Billie Eilish was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her parents are actors and musicians Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell. Her older brother Finneas O'Connell later became a singer, songwriter, producer and her principal co-writer.
Billie Eilish and Finneas were homeschooled. Their parents wanted to give them the opportunity to pursue music and other creative disciplines without the rigid schedule of a conventional school.
From an early age, Billie Eilish sang, played piano and ukulele, and studied dance. As a child, she also performed in the Los Angeles Children's Chorus.
She began attempting to write her own songs before her teenage years. One of her early compositions was «Fingers Crossed», written as part of a songwriting class.
Finneas O'Connell
Billie Eilish’s musical development was closely connected with Finneas almost from the beginning. Her brother was already writing his own songs, playing in a band and learning home recording.
Instead of following the traditional model in which a young artist works with numerous outside producers, Billie Eilish and Finneas spent a long time recording music at home. This approach remained in place even after she assembled a professional team and signed with a major label.
Finneas became more than simply the producer of Billie Eilish’s recordings. He co-writes music and lyrics, plays instruments, works on arrangements and accompanies his sister in concert.
Ocean Eyes
The breakthrough moment came with «Ocean Eyes». Finneas originally wrote the song for his own band, but later suggested that Billie Eilish perform it.
At the time, she was studying dance. Her teacher needed original music for a choreography piece, so Billie Eilish and Finneas recorded «Ocean Eyes» and uploaded it to SoundCloud in 2015.
The recording quickly began spreading among users and music blogs. Interest in the song was far greater than the siblings had expected.

«Bad Guy» reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Billie Eilish’s first US number-one single. She became the first artist born in the 21st century to top the chart.
Grammy 2020
At the 62nd Grammy Awards in January 2020, Billie Eilish won five awards.

In September 2024, the world tour Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour began.

Material from the tour period became the basis for the concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), released on May 8, 2026.
The project was directed by Billie Eilish and James Cameron. The film was created as a three-dimensional concert production and documents the Hit Me Hard and Soft tour show.
At the same time, the live material was prepared for the concert audio release Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live).
Grammy 2026 and tenth award
At the 68th Grammy Awards, «Wildflower» was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Billie Eilish and Finneas won the songwriting category Song of the Year.
The award became the tenth Grammy of Billie Eilish’s career.
Two Academy Awards
Music for film occupies a special place in Billie Eilish’s career.
